Mao Zedong: Before we received Nixon in China, we had conflicting
opinions on strategy. Some said that you should find ways to bind the
hands of the US. Some said that you should conduct a protracted warfare
strategy.

Mao Trạch Đông: Trước khi chúng tôi tiếp Nixon ở Trung Quốc, chúng
tôi đã có những ý kiến trái ngược nhau về chiến lược.
Một số người nói rằng bạn nên tìm cách trói tay Hoa Kỳ. Một số người nói rằng
bạn nên tiến hành một chiến lược chiến tranh trường kỳ.
I myself advocated large-scale battles because large-scale battles can
cause heavy losses to the enemy, forcing him to accept solutions. I also think
that after the Paris Agreements have been signed you need at least six months
to stabilize the situation in South Vietnam [and] to strengthen your forces.
Bản thân tôi chủ trương đánh lớn vì đánh
lớn có thể gây tổn thất nặng nề cho địch, buộc địch phải chấp nhận giải pháp. Tôi cũng cho rằng sau
khi Hiệp định Paris được ký kết, cần ít
nhất sáu tháng để ổn định tình hình Nam Việt Nam
và tăng cường lực lượng.
